The Yeomen of the Guard -- The 1928 Electric D'Oyly Carte Recording (This issue also contains the 1933 abridged Sorcerer)
(GS19)
Complete Opera by W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan recorded under the direction of Rupert D'Oyly Carte.
The 1928 Yeomen has some well-known problems with distortion in certain spots. Every effort has been made to smooth these out, and the resulting transfer offers a very good sound in general. To round out the 2-CD set, the abridged 1933 Sorcerer is included in a transfer that is probably the best currently available. The 78 rpm records used are from the collections of Marc Lewis of New York City and Jack Hilton of Fallbrook, CA.. [Mr. Lewis is the owner of the Gryphon Record shop, 233 W. 72nd Street, New York, NY 10023.]
